9/11 Truth Film Festival, Oakland

Hi folks,

A couple weeks ago I attended the Oakland 9/11 Truth Film Festival, a symposium for folks who understand that elements of the U.S. government were behind the 9/11 attacks. Honey and I checked into a Motel 6 for the two-day event; we didn't want to miss anything.

I especially didn't want to miss the lecture by David Ray Griffin, whose book The New Pearl Harbor re-aligned my psychical compass; over the last three or four years since reading (and re-reading) it, the research I've done has stirred a yearning that cannot easily be communicated. Still, I try, though; the film I'm making is my latest attempt.

Doctor Griffin is professor of theology and renowned author; aside from 8 books on 9/11, he has written some 20 books on theology, philosophy and the philosophy of science. I put the latter into its own category because science – as both a discipline and a way of looking at the world – is so critical to understanding the events surrounding 9/11. To put it simply, science is why we -- Dr. Griffin and I and many others – can inform you, without hesitation or doubt –- to what I will dub an 'utter certitude' (as opposed to a mere 'moral certitude') – that 9/11 was perpetrated by an element of (or behind) the U.S. government.

I realize that this is a potentially reckless statement to be putting out there in a published forum. I know. I do know that.

My point in saying all this here, though, is to give you an idea of the effect that Dr. Griffin has had on my way of looking at the world, my life. (Yes, theoretically I've come a long way since Cosmic Banditos. But listen: Not really,)

Dr. Griffin and I had exchanged emails before the event - he had agreed to an interview for my film - but immediately after introducing myself in the lobby of the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland, I froze up; my awe got the better of me. 'Sorry, but I'm speechless,' was all I could come up with.

Having gathered myself, at Dr. Griffin's suggestion we sat on the stairway to the balcony and chatted for a good half hour; way more time that Dr. Griffin really could afford to give some guy he didn't know. We spoke about important things, but what I'll relate here is Dr. Griffin's exchange with a man who approached us just before Dr. Griffin excused himself – there were several hundred people in the theater waiting to hear him speak.

The fellow – an aging, distinguished-looking guy with an air of academia about him -- wanted to know if Dr. Griffin would speak at his college. Dr. Griffin said he would and then the man asked how much it would cost...

Here I have to digress to make two points. I recently watched a documentary film about a college lectures by important people; how much they charge was an aspect of the story. Someone like Michael Moore or Sean Hannity, for example, will get between fifty and 100 grand.

My second point is best made if you click here to see Dr. Griffin's importance regarding world affairs, according to The New Statesman, the famous British magazine – comparable to... maybe Time or Newsweek over here (although TNS leans a bit to the left).

Back? Okay, so I'm at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, California, waiting to hear how much the 41st most important person on the planet (Hugo Chavez ranks 44) charges for a formal appearance, knowing that Moore and Hannity (neither of whom even make The New Statesman's list) are in the six figure money range...

'Would two hundred dollars be all right?' Dr. Griffin wants to know. (Full disclosure: he also asked for train fare.)

To quote myself in talking to my pup Honey in the opening credits to Water Time: 'There's something very wrong here, Hon.'

Just one more thing before I blurt the real intention of this message. In The New Statesman's little essay-summation of the importance of David Ray Griffin in the realm of world affairs, one word stands out. Can you guess which?

'...pernicious...'

Most of you are not familiar with Dr. Griffin's work, his dedication to truth, and to doing some good for this sorry ass world, so you're quite understandably not affected by the pernicious use of the above word in describing Dr. Griffin's efforts.

But what's my point with all this?

To raise your curiosity, so you'll do me (and your fellow humans) a favor. Take an hour and watch and listen to Dr. Griffin as he lectures at the very same Grand Lake Theatre, a couple years before I met him.

Now the favor. Dr. Griffin asked me to be one of the first (if not charter) members of 'Actor's and Artists For 9/11 Truth.' This is just getting off the ground, so there are only about 30 members now, the best known of which include Charlie Sheen and Ed Asner.

So please, if you are 'an actor' or 'an artist' please consider joining by going to www.aa911truth.com. (Other groups include Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, Firefighters for 9/11 Truth, Pilots for 9/11 Truth, Veterans for, Scholars... and so forth.)

When I asked Dr. Griffin about 'standards,' he wrote back:

It's hard to specify criteria other than the person's being "a professional," which would mean, for one thing, that he or she is paid money to do it and is recognized as a professional by people who are indubitably professionals in the field.

If you believe that we have been lied to – and keep in mind that all we asking for is a new investigation into 9/11 – and know someone who is an 'actor' or 'artist,' please forward to them this email.

We are being lied to on levels that prove my claim that 'Orwell was an optimist.'

I'll be in touch.

Allan
