Imagine Louis L’amour at the typewriter with Elmore Leonard pacing behind him and yelling what to write after they’ve been up for four days whacked on acid and bourbon, reading aloud some early Hemingway (for laughs), and both having just read The Elements of Style, too, but only one of them having paid attention while doing so (it doesn’t matter which one), and meanwhile their thesaurus is not of the English language, plus the period key on the typewriter only sporadically works. (I mean all this is in a good way.)
