The Writing Life

The Writing Life
The Writer's Life
Writing about my questionable past and dangerous present (Costa Rica murder investigation, 1998).

Since my new book is, among other things, a writer’s memoir, for this first issue of The Bandito Browser I’ll give you five short writing-related excerpts.

Elsewhere in this first issue of The Bandito Browser I opine that if you write something and all that’s going on is what’s going on, you’ve failed. I use this quote, which essentially means the same thing:

What I like in a good author is not what he says, but what he whispers.

--Logan Pearsall Smith

This applies to any sort of storytelling, including song lyrics. Here’s an example, a rock ‘n roll tune that’ll knock you out with its in-your-face imagery, while whispering its ass off. I love these guys.

You’ve probably figured out that I have great respect for (most) writers. But what do Readers mean to me?
