It was sometime in late August of 2007 when production of Water Time, Surf Travel Diary of a MadMan began. Three years ago.

I’ve just now completed Part One (of two). It’s just under an hour.

Had I known then what I know now about how it all would go (including my near death experience)…

…I might have stuck to book-writing.

I’m glad I didn’t know.

But okay: Part One (of two) is (provisionally) done and I’m very pleased with it.

In order to properly finish the film, I’m going to need financial help. Here’s what I’m thinking:

If you come up with a $100 donation, I’ll thank you in this manner:

1. A Water Time Associate Producer t-shirt (size Large).
2. A copy of my last memoir, Can’t You Get Along With Anyone? A Writer’s Memoir and a Tale of a Lost Surfer’s Paradise (which dovetails perfectly with the film)
3. A DVD of Part One. At 55 minutes running time, Part One works well on its own (while instilling the desire to know ‘what happens next’).
   
   As a DVD Extra you get to watch a surfy excerpt from Part Two.
   
   In total, you get just under an hour of my last three years of filmmaking: Those of you who have read my books know that I put a lot into my work. Heart and soul kindathing. Such has been the case with this film.
4. You get your name in the credits as an Associate Producer. This is a permanent part of the film’s final credits. If it does well, say, at film festivals and garners theatrical release, your name will be up there on the screen.

Since the film will not be in final cut for several months, your input could actually affect it – both Part Two and the final cut of Part One. (This happened with the U.S. edition of CYGAWA, when Brit edition readers wrote me with feedback.)

Which reminds me: Before the 2001 re-publication, copies of my first novel, Cosmic Banditos were selling for up to $300 on eBay and at rare book stores. This very limited release of Water Time could end up a collector’s item (especially since it will be edited further for the final version).

If  $100 is just a bit over your limit and you can find a friend to share the donation, I’ll do a ‘squiggle credit’: yourname & yourfriend’s name in the credits. (You’ll have to divide up the gifts in your own way.) This would work nicely for a couple who wants to help together. This might also be nice as a gift to someone; a surprise even.

So yeah, it’s 100 bucks but you get a lot of stuff. (I’m hoping your main motivation will be that you just want to help.)

Make sure to include how you want the CYGAWA dedication to read. Include your mailing address formatted like a shipping label, plus email address and phone number. And make a note if you want a squiggle credit and how it should read. No need to include your t-shirt size since all we have are XLs!
